The Hotel, designed by architect A.E. Elkinsky, was built opposite the Duck Tower, not far from the White Pond. The building follows the strict cannons of classical style. It consists of two parts with triangle frontals, forming a blunt angle. One part faces the Krasnogorskaya square, the other – the main town street. In 2006 – 2007, the building was restored and arranged as a pilgrim hotel, like it was originally intended.
Historical and Architectural Complex “Konny Dvor” (1790)
The “Konny Dvor” was constructed near the White Pond to replace the old auxiliary buildings occupying the large territory behind the ravines opposite the Pilgrim Tower. The square yard was formed by an uninterrupted line of one-story buildings, housing stables, carriage and provender sheds, and circular towers in the corners. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the yard was widened by additional constructions from the east and west and the second floor was added.
Now, the restored premises of the Konny Dvor house the permanent displays of ancient history of Sergiev Posad and the Trinity-St. Sergius Monastery,
Russian Folk and Decorative Art and temporary exhibitions. Here, the Museum organizes exhibitions of local artists, festivals, concerts and other cultural events.
In 1992, President of the Russian Federation directed to pass all buildings within the fortress walls, except the Museum, to the Moscow Patriarchate. At the same time, the architectural ensemble of the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra and the Sergiev Posad State History and Art Museum were referred to the most valuable units of the national cultural heritage of the Russian Federation.
