Kalmykova Ludmila Elmarovna (1918 – 2005)
Kalmykova Ludmila Elmarovna - an Honoured Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation. She studied in the Fine Art College (in Leningrad and Samarkand in 1936 – 1942). In 1950, she graduated from I.E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In 1952, she came to Zagorsk. Between 1952 and 1966 she was a senior research worker, and since 1966 she was in charge of the department of contemporary applied and decorative art.
Since 1952 L.E. Kalmykova was a participant and an organizer of 30 odd expeditions examining and acquiring works of Russian folk art. As the result, the Museum collection was supplemented with works from Tver, Moscow, Pskov, Leningrad, Novgorod and Smolensk Region. Her Collecting experience is generally recognized. L. Kalmykova made reports at the sessions of the USSR Academy of Science (1960, 1962, 1969) and at the All-Union and republican conferences.
For many years she supervised collecting of contemporary applied and decorative art. She co-operated with artists of the handicraft centers and artistic enterprises. So, the collection was considerably enlarged. Kalmykova designed the exposition “Soviet Applied and Decorative Art”, she organized numerous exhibitions within and outside
the Museum.
L. Kalmykova is the author of more than 30 catalogues, articles and several monographs on Russian folk and contemporary applied art. Her most significant works are “Soviet Applied and Decorative Art” (M., 1973), “Narodnaya Vyshivka Tverskoi zemli” (L., 1981) [“Folk Embroidery of the Tver Land”], “Narodnoye goncharstvo Moskovskoi oblasti XIX – nachalo XX vv.” (M., 1995) [The 19th – early 20th century Pottery of the Moscow Region], “Narodnoye iskusstvo Tverskoi zemli” (Tver, 1995). [Folk Art of the Tver Land”], etc.
