3. The Day of the Slav Written Language and Culture (page 1)
The Sergiev Posad State History and Art Museum-Reserve, preserving rich historical and cultural heritage, started festive programs dedicated to the Festival of the Slav written language and culture (in memory of SS. Cyril and Methodius – creators of the Slav alphabet). The Days of the Slav Written Language and Culture were held between 24th and 27th of May in the historical and architectural complex “Konny Dvor”’, in the Main Building and in the Local History Department.
In 2007, Sergiev Posad celebrated its 225th anniversary. The event was marked by the poetry contest “Become music, native word!” between the authors and the contest of the readers of the poems composed by the Sergiev Posad poets. So, it was only natural that the poetry competition, which was to show beauty of the Russian language, was held within the Museum walls, in May 24. Eighteen students from four Higher Educational Establishments of Sergiev Posad took part in the competition. There were two nominations:
- “Declamation”;
- “Poetry” ;
The qualified judges selected the best participants and the winners were awarded with diplomas and prizes.
In the Museum library the meeting “Return of Forgotten Names” was dedicated to the 125th anniversary of our famous townsman – priest, philosopher, scientist P.A. Florensky. He was, as D.S. Likhachev noted, a symbol of a strong spirit and courage, his name could show the way to the spiritual revival and to culture based not on itself, but on the highest principles of our life. P. Florensky spent a part of his life in our town - Sergiev Posad. It was here that he could realize himself in the spheres of scientific and philosophic creation, in theory of fine art, in protection of cultural heritage and in theory of the museum work.
In May 25 – 26, the 5th year pupils participated in the educational program with multimedia techniques “First ABC, then sciences” at the exhibition “Book Culture in Russia and the Trinity-St. Sergius Monastery in the 15th – 19th c.”. During the program the children learnt when the written language appeared, how people invented letters and alphabet and in what way the alphabet developed.
