2. The festive program “Shrovetide” at the Konny Dvor (page 1)
The Shrove is one of the favorite and respected Russian traditional feasts. Our Museum, possessing a unique collection of folk art, prepared a festive program “Shrovetide”. The program is very popular. It includes a journey through the Museum halls, traditional Russian games with dances in a ring and songs, wrestling, tobogganing, conquering a snow fortress, parting with Shrove, festive Russian treat. The festive atmosphere encourages the quests to take part in games, presents the folk cultural traditions and helps to make friends. There is also an adapted program for the families with disabled children who are not properly involved into active cultural life of the society.
The festive program of 2008 was held on the territory of the historical and architectural complex “Konny Dvor”. in March 9. The guests (children and parents) were hospitably received by Hostesses in bright historical costumes. Decorative elements (a towel and a samovar) made the atmosphere warm and cozy.
“During the Shrovetide Week” began at the entrance to hall 1 of the Eastern Building of the Konny Dvor . The organizers distributed “medallions with ring-shaped rolls” and “knot-shaped biscuits” depicted on them. The first group(“Ring-Shaped Rolls”) was invited to hall 2 to see the exhibition “Russian Shrove” – a table covered with a gala table-cloth, towel, dipper, clay jug and pot, a plate with “pan-cakes”, wooden and brass tableware, a popular print “At the Son’s- in – Law”. The visitors were told how people parted with Winter.
The second group (“Knot – Shaped Biscuits”) was invited to hall 1 to make a rag Shrove. The dolls were partially finished. With the help of the Museum workers the children were to complete their costumes with simple details (sarafans, kerchiefs). The groups changed.
