The conferences, held since 1998, gained their aim - they combined efforts of the secular, scientific, cultural and theological establishments in the decision of complicated problems concerning the Monastery history, its cultural and spiritual heritage They achieved comprehensive results, presented in a considerable number of the new publications. The 6th conference actually continued the discussion of the problems which had been touched upon earlier (aspects of political, social and economical history; artistic heritage: attribution, conception , function and usage of the monuments, etc.).

The main subject of the conference was the Hard Time, the heroic defense of the Trinity-St. Sergius Monastery at the beginning of the 17th century and their reflection in the ancient Monastery documents, literature and works of art. The exhibition “The Ancient Fort in the Land of Moscow” ( the 19th century lithographs and photographs of the first half of the 20th century from the collection of the Sergiev Posad Museum) was dedicated to those events. The exhibition was displayed in the conference hall. Another peculiarity of the conference was the Round table discussion of practical significance and use of the results of the scientific research in different kinds of the Museum activity.

The participants of the conference - representatives of the scientific research institutes (E.S. Smirnova, L.I. Lifshits, G.V. Popov, S.N. Azbelev) highly estimated the conferences, organized by the Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve, stating that the results of the research work provided the scientific foundation for displays, exhibitions and educational work in the museums. And in their opinion, such work is impossible without scientific foundation.
