In October 15 – 16, 2008, the Yaroslavl History Architecture and Art Museum-Reserve held the IV Inter-Regional Conference “Archeology: History and Perspectives” dedicated to archeological investigation of the medieval towns and other problems of ancient history of Russia. The Head of the Archeology Department of the Sergiev Posad State History and Art Museum-Reserve Vishnevsky V.I. made the report “Pre-Mongolian Layer in Pereslavl-Zalessky” (discoveries of 2002 – 2008). The report presented the results of the works of the archeological expeditions that enlarged the territory of Pre-Mongolian Perslavl. The remarkable find was a stone idol - a miniature figure of a bearded man in a conic hat.
In October 14 – 14, 2008, a senior scientific research worker G.V. Sokolova made the report “The Holy Spirit” Costume in the Trinity-Semik Rituals” at the Vth Yakhontovky Readings in Ryazan. The conference was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the famous art historian G.K. Vagner who was born in Ryazan. Galina Vitalyevna Sokolova supervised the expeditions to the Ryazan Region for 10 years. As the result the Museum acquired over 1000 folk art items: costumes, embroideries, home-spun textiles, pottery, ceramic vessels, clay toys. The most valuable acquisitions were rare article of children clothes, moaning costumes and the so-called “Holy Spirit costume” – a kind of a festive dress connected with the Trinity-Semik rituals. This costume was the subject of the report.
In October 17 – 18, 2008, the Sergiev Posad Museum of Toys organized the Bartram readings to mark its 90th anniversary. The specialists from our Museum delivered their reports there. The Report of the senior research worker G.V. Sokolova presented an unknown toy centre of Middle Russia - Alexandra-Praskovjinka village of the Sapozhkov District. There have been preserved ancient traditions of pottery and clay toys: miniature figures of domestic animals and fantastic beasts and human images made of clay and decorated with bright stripes. The senior research worker of “The Sacristy of the Trinity-St. Sergius Monastery” department O.I. Zaritskaya presented an interesting report on the most ancient toys.
