The 6th conference, connected with the investigation of the role and significance of the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra in history, culture and spiritual life of Russia, marked the tenth anniversary of its foundation. It was held in co-operation with the Moscow Theological Academy and the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra in the Sergiev Posad State History and Art Museum-Reserve in October 29 – 31, 2008. This conference started the events dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the heroic defense of the Trinity-St. Sergius Monastery. The leading scientists from Russia and from the neighboring countries took part in it.

117 participants delivered 39 reports, including 15 reports presented by the specialists of the Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve. The main ideas of the reports were published before the conference in “The 6th International Conference “The Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra in History, Culture and Spiritual Life of Russia” October 29 – 31, 2008. Foreprints”. Sergiev Posad, 2008. The conference was opened with congratulations with its 10th anniversary. The participants were greeted by Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy Archbishop Eugene of Vereya, by Director of the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Science, by a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Science, Professor A.N. Sakharov.

The brief report summed up the results of five previous conferences. There were noted new discoveries and interesting hypothesis, new subjects, new approaches in the investigation of the documents and some new interpretations of them, that considerably supplemented our knowledge of such important phenomenon in our life and culture, as the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra was in the course of several centuries. All aspects of history, culture and spiritual life of the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, discussed at the conference, had been published in six editions including 219 articles and four digests including over 120 reports.
