25 Years of the Archeological Expedition of the Sergiev Posad Museum-Preserve

On April 15, 2009, the Sergiev Posad State History and Art Museum-Reserve organized the scientific conference “ANTIQUITIES OF THE RADONEZH LAND”, dedicated to 25 years of the Museum archeological expedition. At the conference spoke the Museum research workers, archeologists from the Moscow Archeology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, from the Kiev National University, specialists of the Alexandrov Art Museum.
There were delivered nine reports:
1. Vishnevsky V.I. (head of the Museum Archeology Department). The Sergiev Posad Museum Archeological Expedition: 25 years of investigation. The report marked the main steps of archeology development in our region in the course of 25 years and named the most famous archeological monuments of the Radonezh Land.
2. Lozovsky V.M. (scientific research worker of the Archeological Department). Art of the Zamostje-2 site in the context of European art of the Mesolithic period. Unique Zamostje-2 finds. Their significance in Mesolithic art of Europe.
3. Lozovskaya O.V. (research worker of the Museum Archeology Department). Wooden helves and adze handles from the Zamostje-2 site: archeological context (materials of the Museum collection). Technologic peculiarities of wooden handles. Unique character of wooden finds. The author’s reconstruction and restoration of the presented objects.
4. Sidorov V.V. (research worker of the Archeology Institute of the Russian Academy of Science, Moscow). Picks in the Mesolithic and Neolithic epochs in the forest belt of Eastern Europe. The author regarded picks as a separate type of Stone Age weapon, commented on their functional significance. (The report aroused great interest and hot discussions between the specialists in the Stone Age).
5. Shidlovsky P.S. ((the Kiev National University). The excavation of the late Paleolithic Mezhirich site. The unique site with remains of a dwelling made of mammoth bones.
6. Usanov P.S. (the Alexandrov Art Museum). Mezo-Neolithic ornament of the archeological complex from Zamosje in context of the religious and mythological views of the ancient man. The author’s ideas of the ornaments, made by the ancient man on the objects of bone, stone, wood and ceramics.
7. Vishnevsky V.I. ( head of the Museum Archeology Department). Finno-Ugric and Baltic tribes in the Northern Part of the Moscow Region in early Middle Ages (Kikino settlement and Ratkovo burial ground).
8. Vysotsky A.L. (research worker of the Archeology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow). Wooden burial containers in late medieval inhumations of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra.
9. Shcherbakov V.V. (research worker of the Museum Archeology Department). Tiles of the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra (recent excavations). Tiles, found on the Territory of the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra in 2000 – 2005.
The fore prints of the reports and exhibition “Antiquities of the Radonezh Land: 25 Years of the Museum Archeological Expedition” were prepared for the conference.
