    Painting 20 - the 21-st century (p. 1)

The period 1900-1917 was very fruitful in an art life of Sergiev Posad. It was time of addition of local graphic traditions, formation and activity of the first numerous collective of professional artists – “ Troitze-Sergievsky art society (1914-1917)”. The big group of the earliest works in collection of painting of 20th century represents creativity of artists-members TSAS: Vl. I.Sokolov, V.F.Mey, M.V.Boskin, V.I.Hrustachyov, S.I.Pitchugin, – for which the theme of a city and architectural ensemble of the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra was one of basic.

Creative aspirations of these masters were close to searches of updating of picturesque language on a boundary 19-20th centuries and to a sphere of theme, characteristic for Russian art of those years. They created genre compositions and landscapes with elements of a genre in the spirit of late “peredvignichestvo”, loyal to traditions of Russian realistic school of second-half of 19th century.

Vl. Sokolov has proved himself as the slender landscape writer, though has known his early references to genre compositions, later – to pictures-still-lifes. His creativity is a lyrical narration about the nature, ancient architecture and a life, proceeding in this environment, which was very characteristic for «picturesque realism» of the beginnings of 20th century.

Among works of art of 1900-1920th in the collection of the museum are especially numerous pictures and etudes of M.V.Boskin (1875-1930). He was the participant of exhibitions of the Moscow artist’s association and the exhibitor of Association of mobile art exhibitions (“peredvigniki”), living constantly in our city since 1910. The creativity of one of founders of tradition of the fine arts of Sergiev Posad, V.F.Mey (1888-1975), is not less widely presented in the collection. Heritage of Mey includes all basic genres of painting and a drawing. Among this works of the art were many portraits, landscapes, still-lifes, thematic pictures, sketches of theatrical sceneries and suits.

Among works of 1930th available in museum collection as the high picturesque qualities, rise above the numerous still-lifes, created by local masters: I.I.Oveshkov (1877-1942), Vl. I. Sokolov, T.N. Grushevsky (1885-1976). They united by the raised decorative effect in use of colour and certain selection of "material".

Almost at each of still-lifes there are subjects of national creativity that reflects a circle of professional interests of these artists who were engaged in creation of samples for a cottage industry, supervising handicraft workshops, and their "root" communication with ancient traditions of art of the Troitsk earth. The period of 1940-1950th has presented in collection by works of local young painters A.A. Osmyorkin (1892-1953) - members of Association of artists of Zagorsk (formed in 1943) and cloths of one of large Russian masters of a brush - and its learners. They have evacuated together with Academy of arts from Leningrad and have made huge impact on creativity of local artists. "Pearls" of a collection of the fine arts of XX century are two Osmyorkin’s landscapes , created in 1944, - «Refectory in Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra » and «The Water tower».

Works of two talented painters which creativity became appreciable page in art history of a city: E.P.Belyaeva the schoolgirls of Osmyorkin (1916-2004) and T.S.Stoyanov (1903-1973) represent in the collection of a museum «School of the All-Russia Academy of arts» 1940th years. For E.P. Belyaeva became program the creation of "Russian still-life» and an image of "the Russian beauty", the reference to sources of national and Old Russian art.

In 1940-1990th one of the brightest masters of the fine arts of a city, the National artist of Russia N.I.Barchenkov (1918-2002), who have become by the author by the person of "picturesque annals of Sergiev Posad» creates his works. Especially brightly, he has expressed the individuality, the creative predilections in the products devoted to a native city, working in genres of a landscape, a still-life and a thematic picture. At same years the creativity of one of founders of Association Zagorsk artists N.J. Belyaev, in which the theme of a city and Monastery will sound constantly, has developed. In our picturesque collection are only two early landscape Beljaev‘s etudes, where city temples, low small houses serve as a background of genre "miniatures", and only are in the distance guessed silhouettes constructions of Lavra.
