    Medals of the 18th - beginnings 20th century (p.1)

        Medals began to get into collections of monasteries, including the Trinity-St.Sergius Lavra, from time of the occurrence in Russia, i.e. from the beginning of 18th century. Whole collection, including decoration and memorable signs of 18th - beginning of 20th century connected with military events, anniversaries, celebrations, was stored in the monastic treasury in the beginnings of 20th century. The major stages to lives of the Russian sovereigns were present by the considerable number of medals.

        Now the collection of medals Sergiev-Posad museum totals more than 300 units of storage, including Russian and foreign works. The numerous remained registration documents of the Trinity-St.Sergius Lavra allow tracking history of folding of monastic collection, the change of relation to medals throughout two centuries, character of an existing of medals in the monastery and reveal the most interesting monuments from these points of view. The most valuable medals in a museum collection connected with Troitsk priors: Laurentius Hotsyatovsky, Platon Levshin, Philaret Drozdov. They participated in all largest Russian events, received awards and memorable signs on the high rank as the higher church hierarchs.

        Îne of interesting exhibits is the gold medal, which let out in 1721 on occasion of the conclusion of the Nishtadtsky peace, enclosed in the Troitsk monastery by George Dashkov. Attracts attention the copper medal, on which face the bosom image of count A.P.Bestuzhev the great chancellor of Russia draws at Empress Elizabeth Petrovna is represent. On the back of medal is the composition with sea elements. Inscriptions, circular and in a sawn-off shotgun, are made in Latin language. Three types of medals were made on occasion of opening of the Educational house first in Russia for children-orphans (1763). The silver (cervical) variant is representing in the Sergiev-Posad museum collection.

        In the autumn of 1764, Catherine II transformed the Petersburg Academy of arts in Russian imperial, and in honour of this event the commemorative medal was minted. The gold medal «On Orthodoxy celebration» is the contribution of Philaret Drozdov to Troitsk monastery. The medal was minted in 1839 in memory of end of opposition between orthodox and Greco-catholic churches in Territory of Russian Empire. Indisputable historical interest represents coronation medal Lzhedimitry I (Impostor) of the contribution of Platon Levshin. However it not the original, but new made medal of 18th century. Such products were produced in second half of century on the Petersburg Mint by request of Catherine II and its confidants. The original stamp found out in Krakow and brought by Peter I to Russia is used.

        The significant amount of the medals, occurring from collection of the Trinity- St.Sergius Lavra, is devoted to military events. It is reward medals given out to soldiers and officers - participants of victorious fights, and the memorable signs established concerning conclusion of peace. The earliest medals from sacristy collections reflect events of Northern war. In a museum there is the silver medal founded for the bottom ranks on the first victory, gained Russian army on 27 July 1714 at cape Gangut.

        Military events of 18th century presented by a small amount of the medals, reflecting the basic final stages of the largest wars. The silver medal in honour of a victory over army Frederic the Great at Kunersdorf in 1759 is especially rare. Such medals has remained very little as at once after death of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna (1762) Prussian missionaries redeemed them and destroyed.

        The lot of awards for participation in operations against Frenchmen in a Patriotic War of 1812 is in the collection of the museum. Most known of them are presented by several copies: a medal «In memory of a Patriotic War of 1812», and a medal «For a capture of Paris on 19 March 1814». In 19th century, Russia conducted some wars against Turkey, acting as the defender of Christians - subjects of the sultan. In a museum is stored the commemorative medal devoted to a capture of a city of Varna in 1828 and a silver medal «For Turkish war», founded on 1 October 1829.

        The Crimean war or as it named in official sources, East war 1853-1856, which Russia conducted with Turkey, France and the Great Britain was the largest military campaign of 19th century. The medal «In memory of war 1853-56» have founded for all civil and military ranks of empire. Also the medal on the Georgievsky tape «For protection of Sevastopol», intending to all participants of heroic defense of a city was let out. In museum meeting there are also awards in honour of Russian-Turkish war 1877-1878, that was victorious for Russia and ended with liberation Bulgaria from a Turkish yoke.
