Since 1950th years, the basic output of products with khokhloma painting was concentrated in Semino village of Koverninsky district (the enterprise «Khokhlomsky artist») and in Semenov (the enterprise « Khokhlomsky painting»). The unique products executed for various All-Russia and zone exhibitions by art masters of these enterprises of O.N.Veselova, N.I.Ivanova, O.P.Lushina, N.P.Salnikova, V.K.Shvetsova, etc., have made a basis of museum Khokhloma collection of second half 20th - the beginnings of 21st century.

The Gorodets collection of the museum, as well as Khokhloma, is rather extensive. It differs by rare completeness and allows tracking the basic stages of development of this centre since its formation till today.
Gorodets’s craft formed in the end of a 18th century. Peasants of some small villages located nearby to large trading village Gorodets, made for sale bottoms of distaffs. Women sat on them in an operating time, having strengthened in a special aperture a high crest with a linen or woollen tow. The bottom was not only a gift to the woman, but also a subject, which was used in various ceremonies, therefore it by all means tried to make beautiful, and placed on a house wall after work.
For decoration of bottoms used very rare in Russian folk art reception of incrustation by slices of dark thin oak. By 1870s from a carving with incrustation passed to a painting, by fast picturesque dabs represented magnificent "rose trees", horsemen, scenes of tea drinking and walks. By 1920s the necessity for bottoms disappeared, and Gorodets’s masters began to use widely their picturesque skills in an ornament of other subjects: boxes, caskets, decorative panels, toys.

The museum collection includes the variety of works recognized as "classical" samples of Gorodetz art. Among them Anton Melnikov's (1860) and Gabriel Polyakov’s (1881) rare subscription bottoms executed in the late of 1930s, and the panel of Ignatiy Mazin «Mazin on hunting» and « Life of Mazin».
It is possible to rate the work of I.K.Lebedev and D.I.Krjukov, a screen «Town governors of the city of Glupova» created on motives of novells of M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin «The history of Glupov City» as unique products of a craft.

The museum stores a considerable collection of drawings with samples of Gorodets ornaments which considerable part was executed by A.E.Konovalov – the known Gorodets master who has headed work on revival of a craft during post-war time. To the middle of 1980th A.E.Konovalov remained the creative director of the enterprise «The Gorodets painting», in which bounds the craft developed in the second half of 20th century.
In the museum collection products of all art directors of a craft of this time are presented: L.A.Kubatkina, F.N.Kasatova, L.F.Bespalova, V.A.Chertkova, E.N. Staroverova, etc. The great interest represented series of works on a "Sergiev Posad" theme, which has been executed by masters of a craft in the mid-nineties by request of a museum.
