    Medals of the 18th - beginnings 20th century (p.2)

        Award and commemorative medals let out in Russia and in connection with the events occurring in the imperial house: the death of the governor, coronation of a new sovereign, sometimes wedding of the successor and so forth. On such medals were marked, as a rule, on the back placed the scenes corresponding to event or specifying in it of an inscription. On a face side of medals placed the image of the governor, therefore sometimes medals have called as portraits. In the Sergiev-Posad museum, there are a sufficient number of the medals concerning an imperial family.

        The first medals of similar type, silver and gold, have made of Catherine I coronation in 1724. In 18th century, medals, which given out on death of the emperor or the empress, were issued in a significant amount and intended for wide, but the selected circle of people.

        In 19th century, there was a peculiar depreciation of medals, their transformation into a widespread memorial sign. Dinner arranged in Granovity chamber for high-ranking secular and ecclesiastics after coronation monarch, where the entertainment combined with investiture medals. Gold and silver coronation counters have minted also; they usually distributed to the people on the Ivanovo area and in other places of Moscow.

        Numerous official anniversaries, existence of various establishments, organizations, societies have celebrated in Russia long since. Many of them found reflection in medals and counters, which, as a rule, were distributed to direct participants of events. Such is the medal let out in honour of the 50 anniversary of public service of Minister of Internal Affairs S.S.Lansky. The commemorative medal was issued in honour of construction the temple of the Christ Savior in Moscow and the Isaakievsky cathedral in Petersburg. Members of an imperial family took part in its bookmark and consecration. Some medals were minted in honour of deliverance peasantry from the serfdom in 1861. The medal in memory of the 50 anniversary of this great event of the Russian history was strike also.

        In memory of the 300 anniversary of reign of the House of Romanovs have been founded desktop and award medals. They were intended for a wide range of persons and were rapped in a large quantity. In 1892 the 500 anniversary from the date of death Saint Sergius of Radonezh was widely marked by celebration. The counter «In memory of the 500 anniversary from the date of death Saint Sergius of Radonezh», possibly, had souvenir character.
